Happy Holidays!!

    The DCU Holiday Bash #1

"Tis the season to bust out the eggnog, sing a few carols and read some Christmas comics featuring a few super heroes and Catwoman. I don't know how many of these there are, and I totally forgot I had three of these but as I was putting some comics away I found them and well, why not read them? We could all use a little holiday cheer right? As far as comic anthologies go this is a mixed bag of good and not so good. You have Green Lantern in a Hannukkah story in which he fights some skin heads, you have Catwoman saving a woman and her child from mobsters seeking revenge. It's a mixed bag of stuff that trys to bring forth some happiness in these stories and it does work. Some of the stories are too cheesy not to like especally when you have a story featuring Superman alone at Christmas. Each story is a stand alone piece and while it wouldn't be a comic if there wasn't a little butt kicking involved.

It's one of those comics you put in your collection only to pull out once a year as it's intended. There's nothing here that's memorable or has any bearing at all on the storylines going on at the time. Christmas is all about feeling good and of course comic readers want something to read during this joyous season. It's intentions are in the right place and while none of the stories are terrible it's something you're going to want to read during the summer. Who needs to read about Orion becoming Santa and an elf just to appease a grumpy store owner on Christmas eve in the middle of a heatwave. You won't but it's good enough to read when the snow's flying and the warmth of the holiday season are shining through your blackened soul.

If you're a geek or a fan of Christmas this is something cool to check out. While the cheesiness of these stories may bother some people, it's the kind of stuff you really want to read this time of year. Christmas in the DCU is just the same as in your neck of the woods minus the guys and girls in tights fighting crime. Is it a must read or a classic? Not at all, but sometimes we all have comics we enjoy just because they're different and fun to read  4/5
